Bob Duke

COO

Bob Duke, Chief Operating Officer of BEAR, brings nearly two decades of hands‑on construction and energy‑efficiency expertise to the company’s building‑envelope mission. He entered the industry 19 years ago by founding a residential spray‑foam company in Charleston, South Carolina, and grew it into a large‑scale contracting operation delivering commercial and federal projects nationwide. That growth, combined with deep industry engagement, naturally expanded his focus into the assessment, repair, and optimization of building envelopes across commercial, institutional, and federal facilities. This has been a key factor in BEAR’s ESCO growth OCONUS.

Bob’s technical foundation spans new‑construction installation of spray polyurethane foam and fluid‑applied air‑barrier systems, as well as improving the performance of existing buildings through targeted envelope assessments and upgrades. His work is grounded in practical field experience, rigorous standards, and a commitment to delivering measurable efficiency gains for clients.

Within the spray‑foam and high‑performance building‑science community, Bob has held numerous leadership roles. Through the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA), he served on multiple committees, advanced to the Board of Directors, and ultimately became President of the national organization.

Bob Duke

He also contributed to a multi‑year joint industry–federal initiative focused on the safe, proper use of spray polyurethane foam - work that led to the development of the industry’s ISO‑17024 accredited certification program. Bob continues to serve as a moderator and featured speaker at industry events, and instructor for SPFA’s Professional Certification Program (PCP).

Bob maintains his Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) installer certifications and previously served as Chairman of ABAA’s Existing Building Committee, helping shape national best practices for envelope remediation.

A frequent presenter, Bob delivers virtual and in‑person Lunch‑N‑Learn sessions for engineering firms, industry groups, and building‑owner organizations - sharing practical insights, field experience, and actionable strategies for improving building performance.
